Reading 2.3-Text and Textualities

The information that I found interesting is about the textual in social construct. Each society has their own customs as well as its verbal and visual text. We can learn a great deal about a society by examining its customs. For example, the Dunhill advertisement. By analyzing the choices and pattern in a text, we can uncover attitudes and beliefs that can motivate social action and we can think about their effects. The process for unpacking a text is a particularly useful to show how a text can encourage readers to favor one set of values and meanings rather than another. However, the procedure of a text cannot completely control a reader’s response, which is there is a scope for oppositional readings and negotiated reading. For example, the advertiser should used paradigmatic words to focus on one particular reader. Nevertheless, the textual production must be followed to make sure the implication will be in a better side. This writer explain how, by examining a writer’s choice of vocabulary, sentence structures and other patterns of language, wecan come to discover important information about the writer’s values, attitudes and perspectives which, about the audience or to whom a text is intended. In other words, just as a person’s choice of clothing style can make a statement about who they are, so, the pattern of language in which writer present their thought signify or make a statement about the writer. As a conclusion, texts are combination of signs with multiple, social meanings. These meanings derive from cultural codes and myth. While texts may often seem to represent a preferred meaning, this meaning may be accepted, negotiated or oppose by different social groups of readers. Indeed, because the condition of a sign is its polysemic potential, we could say that a text’s meaning never has a single origin or final destination. It is always an effect of different readings. This process reveals that textuality and reading are always social activities. For me the textuality terminology a quite difficult to understand which is simply what text means and how they are used.
